COVID updates January 2021

Monday 11th January 2021

Dear All,

Well 2021 has not started in quite the way we had all hoped. School for the vast majority of the pupils is closed until at least February 22nd.

At the moment the rates in Lewisham are very high. On December 10th 120 people out of 100,000 tested positive for COVID. At Lewisham Headteacher’s meeting last week I was informed it was now 972. At the moment in London 1 person in every 30 has COVID. These figures are higher than the lockdown in March 2020. The safest place to be is at home so please only venture out if you really have to.

We are mainly providing an online curriculum and the government has issued us with new guidelines as to how much time your child should be working from home.

For Reception Year 1 and 2 it is three hours per day. For Years 3 to 6 it is four. From Monday 18th each class will have a daily dairy with some online teaching and some tasks to work on independently. The online lessons will mainly come from the Oak Academy. This is a virtual academy with online lessons that teachers can use to support the children’s learning. The lessons are selected by staff to support the learning that would have been going on in school. Please remember that all areas of the curriculum will be set so not everything will be completed looking at a screen.

Class teachers will also zoom at least once a week so the children can see and speak to each other. This will increase to twice a week from week beginning the 18th January.

If you cannot access online, packs will be available for you to collect from the school office. Please ring in and order your pack in the morning and it will be ready for collection after 1pm.

We have a limited amount of chrome books which families who qualify will be able to loan to support online learning. I am aware of most but please let me know if you are having difficulties.

For those of you who claim FSM weekly hampers are available to help feed your family. These are ordered on a Monday for collection later in the week.

We hope the government will change to vouchers but so far this has not happened.

Please remember we are here to support you in whichever way we can. Food bank vouchers, helping to fill in government forms or even just a friendly chat.

I will email or text every week just to keep in touch. If you need to contact me please email me on
Take care and everyone please keep safe.

Best wishes Chris Keen
